First letter Home

Mom & Dad,

Last night I was feeling homesick and inadequate so I went and talked with the MTC president. He helped me feel so much better. I read in an Ensign of January 2012 a talk that was titled Looking Up. I'm pretty sure he wrote the talk for me (Elder Carl B. Cook) It was EXACTLY what I needed to see.

I still have trouble understanding the African accents but it's getting easier. One of the first things we were told when we got here was that when there is the spirit, time changes. I feel like i've been here for at least 3 months but it's been barely 3 days.

My companion is Elder Boakye (said bwatchay). He's from Ghana and going to serve in Niger (I think)  He's a convert and his parents are divorced. He helps me so much learning simple words and phrases that they use here.

The food is decent. Mostly a rice mix with either chicken, beef, or fish. They feed us so much and for some reason I barely eat any and i'm full. We had spaghetti today but it was really spicy which I thought was weird.

Yesterday was a very important day for me because it's changed me I think. I'm learning so much, a lot of the basic things that I never understood. I can't wait to be out in the field and have time fly by due to loosing myself in the work.

At night we leave the windows open and all. We have a basic, generic old school fan swinging back and forth. I don't even use a blanket or anything because it's too hot. I hope that our appartment has a good air conditioner. The only ones here are in the classrooms and they are the ones like in William's room. The chapel has 4 bigger ones and that room stays cool. There is no doubt that being out here is going to take everything out of me. There is no way I could do this alone.

Tell everyone I miss them and that I look forward to seeing you all again. Make sure to pray for me and stay close to the gospel. I love you and thanks for your conversion story.

Talk to you soon (I hope)

  1. I just love this young man! So amazing already, but why am I surprised? It's just who he is.
