First Letters from Home - Brothers

Dear ELDER SCHMELTZER,

I’m still very proud of your decision on going on your mission. I also think that it was a good time to go that the lord has chosen for you. I know it didn’t seem like the best time with things because of  William going away and all this stuff going on but when I see mom and dad read your letters they cry every time. 

Today dad bore his testimony about you going in church and he started crying (You know how rare that is). But I think that you and them pulling together to get all your stuff together to go helped them. I started tearing up as well when I saw you go but I was serious about you not coming home early. I hope it’s awesome out there! 

Did you end up being able to talk to anyone about our church on the way over? How was the rest of your time bonding with the other elders? You guys looked like a group who would get along and stay close. I’ll call Joseph and make sure he is writing you. I’ll also be waiting for you letter back next week. We all love you and this helped everyone including mom, dad, William, me, and the younger two. Have fun and enjoy the MTC.

Elder,

I hear that it is hot, hot, hot, hot, hot and humid. We’re all glad that you arrived safely on your flight.

Today in sacrament meeting, there was an older sister that got up to bear her testimony. She then told us that she has dementia and that I guess she hadn’t been to church in a while for whatever reason. When she bore her testimony, it was very simple. A very very powerful testimony, but the truth was perfect. That’s the only thing that you need to remember. Truth is simple.

“Because straight is the gate and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” –Matthew 7:14

When you’re teaching, remember that the gospel is simple. It takes only those that are willing and humble enough to find the gospel in the fullest. It is meant for all men to partake of. Be bold, but true. Keep the spirit close.

If it’s worth doing, it’s worth asking God for help with it.

Hi Elder Schmeltzer,

I want to ask you questions and what I’ve felt the past days so here I go.

How many Elders are there with you?

What kind of meals you’ve eaten and what’s your favorite.

Then, these past days I’ve felt good for you and happy. I’ve thought a lot of things about you and what kinds of kits or packages I want to send you while you’re there. I have been thinking of getting you those army meals and send you some of those - you might like them better. 

I also want to thank you for the cloths you gave me. And I wanted to ask if you have any extra pairs of shoes I can have? 

Do good while you’re there and make sure you share your heart with those children and care for them and the adults ,but make sure you ask if they need any thing. I love you Elder Schmeltzer and make sure you take lots of pictures and send letters and stuff bye.
